The News Tribune in Tacoma gave Brian's re-election candidacy its pre-primary election endorsement. This is what the newspaper's editors wrote about Brian:

"State Auditor Brian Sonntag has been a high-profile champion of government openness and accountability since his election in 1993. He's been vigorously carrying out performance audits of governments since the Legislature and a citizens initiative empowered him to do so in 2005. Sonntag's opponents . . . . haven't made a case for replacing him."

The Columbian in Vancouver became the first major Washington newspaper to give Brian's re-election candidacy a pre-primary election endorsement. This is what the newspaper's editors wrote about Brian:

We have increased the visibility, and thus the credibility – of a somewhat overlooked office. But the Office of State Auditor is absolutely essential to good government.

Washington State Auditor Brian Sonntag filed as a candidate for re-election, pledging to continue serving as the taxpayers’ champion to advance government accountability, transparency and responsiveness.

Sonntag, a Democrat, said he will use a new four-year term to broaden the use of his office’s performance audit authority, to strengthen laws ensuring open public meetings and records, and to give citizens a more potent voice in their government.

Brian has received endorsements of his candidacy for re-election from an impressive list of groups and organizations.
